Purchasing Mistake 15 - One Glass Type / Table

Buyers sometimes fail to allow for different glass types to be cut at each cutting table.  Using suckers to transport stock sheets to a tilt table is no longer an option with coated glasses, so enough free fall or automatic loader positions must be catered for.

In the worst case of this type I have ever seen, a glass shop turning over less than 1000 units per week had at least six different cutting tables, each dedicated to cutting glass for different purposes.  The real problem here, apart from the stubborn intransigence of the owner, was that the building housing all these cutting tables was totally inadequate.  A building with a smaller shop floor, but with enough height for a crane would have solved the problem.  This mistake no doubt contributed to the fact that this company eventually had to cease trading.
